New Look for Historic Saint Louis Floral Market.

May 22, 2006 - WHAT: New street pole banners for the St. Louis Floral Market WHERE: In and around the St. Louis Floral Market encompassing S. Jefferson Ave. from Highway 40 south to Highway 44, west of Jefferson on Chouteau Ave. and LaSalle St. WHEN: Banners installed May 19, 2006 Ever wonder where some of the best ideas in flowers get their start? You can bet many of them begin at the St. Louis Floral Market on LaSalle St. The market was established in 1927 as a wholesale market, a place for local growers to bring their flowers to supply the retail florists in and around the bi-state region. Today, the St. Louis Floral Market is still a hub of activity in the floral industry and is now easier than ever to find. The St. Louis Floral Market Business Association announces the installation of colorful banners. City residents, commuters, and visitors will notice the new banners on lamp posts in and around the Floral Market area. For over 60 years the 2700 block of LaSalle Street, between California and Ohio, has served as the center of the Saint Louis floral industry. The Saint Louis Floral market consists of a mix of Wholesale and Retail Florists. The Wholesale members include, Baisch and Skinner Wholesale Distributors, LaSalle Wholesale Florist, Harold’s Wholesale Florist, Floral Supply Syndicate, and DWF Wholesale Florist. The Retail florists include; Walter Knoll Florist, Tom Carr Florist, Norma Uible Florists, Wildflowers, and Artistry. This is the largest concentration of floral products and services in the Midwest. Products range from fresh cut flowers and foliages, live tropical plants, silk flowers, florist supplies, glassware, holiday decorations, and lawn and garden plants and products, as well as party and event flowers. This is one of the first projects of the newly formed business association and was made possible with help from the City of St. Louis and Alderman Lewis Reed.
