What's better than a bowl of freshly-cut flowers sitting smack dab in the middle of your dining table? Just the same, only in winter.
We here at Walter Knoll Florist are big believers in having flowers around the house year round, obviously. But we want to make a case for why it's so important to do so especially in the colder months, and precisely because of the colder months. The shorter, colder days means less time outside, enjoying all of the benefits of the green growing things you'll find there. Read More about A Winter Wonderland Of Flowers »
International Floral Distributors has released its predictions for what will be hot in floral design in 2018, and we here at Walter Knoll Florist are paying attention. Four trends were identified, from "Magnificent Mediterranean" to "Incarnation of Earth's Element" - a bit of a mouthful, but a style that has everything to do with organic minimalism.
Two of IFD's trends - "Folk Art Reinvented" and "Positively Posh" - are upbeat, cheerful approaches to working with flowers. They embody a youthful, whimsical spirit. Read More about The Floral Trends You Want To Know About For 2018 »
Somewhere in California in the 1960's, a man gave his wife a transistor radio. When she asked him why, he responded "just because". His kids loved the gesture so much, it began a tradition in their home to surprise other members of the family for the same reason - no reason! Pretty soon the neighborhood took notice, and the trend became a community event. 50 years later, we are here writing about "Just Because Day", which became a national observance in 2005. The Goodwin family would likely be surprised to know how much everyone loved their holiday!
the holiday has grown beyond giving gifts, and instead represents a day to do something unexpected, to color outside the lines, or to think outside the box. You are encouraged to walk away from the mundane routine for a day, and try something completely different! On August 27, don't forget the flowers from Walter Knoll Florist - after all, flowers make every day special! Read More about Celebrating Just Because Day with Flowers »

The natural world is a synergistic system, in which the individual components rely on each other for survival. The insects need flowers for food, the flowers need the insects for pollination, and in turn, humans need the bees to sustain our food supply. Because we are all so interconnected, it only makes sense for us to help support the bees and butterflies by providing them with a safe haven. (Not to mention, watching them work is fascinating!) At Walter Knoll Florist, you'll find all the floral expertise you need to plan your very own Saint Louis butterfly garden for your patio or backyard.
But Won't I Get Stung? Honeybees are experiencing a critical loss of population. By providing honeybees with a garden to gather nectar and pollen, you will be assisting them in their fight for survival. But honeybees at work are generally uninterested in stinging anyone, and as long as you leave them alone, there should be no danger. Read More about Butterflies, Bees & Flower Gardens »

Easter Sunday is a holiday with something for everyone - a combination of two distinctly opposite traditions that have managed to merge to create one celebration. With Easter eggs and bunnies originating in pagan fertility festivals, and the Christian tradition contributing the story of the Resurrection, it is a strange combination indeed. Still, many people do observe elements of both traditions - and no matter how you celebrate, Walter Knoll Florist has the florals and gifts you are looking for.
The Easter Lily: While flowers have a place in both traditions, it is the Christian faith that views the Easter lily as symbolic. Representing hope and new life, the white lily is often used in Easter Sunday church services and to give to people of faith. Read More about Easter Lilies, Floral Designs & Gifts »

Here at Walter Knoll Florist, we love dogs. In fact, as a pet-friendly shop, it is not uncommon for us to have four or five dogs come to visit us every day. Because of our love for our puppies, we admire efforts such as National Puppy Day that aim to make life better for animals.
Established 10 years ago by Colleen Paige - who is also the pet-lover behind National Dog Day and National Cat Day - this latest effort was meant to bring attention to the issue of puppy mills for-profit breeders and to encourage people to adopt puppies from shelters instead. There are over 70,000 puppies born annually in the United States, and approximately 1.4 million dogs are surrendered to shelters each year. National Puppy Day seeks to educate families on the great need to give homes to these lovable animals who are hoping for a forever home.
