Sweetest Day is coming up this month and we want to help you celebrate it in style. Designated on the third Saturday of October, this special day began in 1922 when Herbert Birch Kingston, a candy company employee, wanted to spread a little joy and happiness to the people around him that had very little. He passed out candy and treats to orphans, shut-ins and others whom society had forgotten. Today we celebrate by sharing treats with our loved ones and sweethearts, and by bringing them to hospitals, nursing homes or shelters to bless those less fortunate. Walter Knoll Florist is ready with plenty of great ideas to help you make Sweetest Day the best ever. Read More about How To Celebrate Sweetest Day »
Although many consider Sweetest Day to be a type of Valentine's Day, the origins of the holiday are not actually romantic. In fact, the original intention of the holiday was to acknowledge the underprivileged in society with gifts of kindness, to let them know that they were not forgotten. Therefore, Sweetest Day is a perfect opportunity to show encouragement, to convey our support, and to send smiles to people who may feel alone. Walter Knoll Florist has the floral collections and gifts that are perfect for all of these occasions.
Why is it called Sweetest Day? Although we now use the special observance to say "you are the sweetest!" , the name was derived from the fact that the original holiday was celebrated by handing out candies and sweets to the poor and shut-in. Read More about Gestures of Kindness on Sweetest Day »
